As experienced EV charger installers serving Wishaw, we supply and install a wide range of smart 7kW home charging points, with tethered and untethered options available from leading manufacturers. Customers can choose from chargers by Ohme, Hypervolt, Zappi, Autel, Rolec, Deta, Tesla, Zaptec, SyncEV, Andersen, Project EV and many other brands within our current range. Most modern electric vehicles use Type 2 AC charging at home, so the charger does not usually need to carry the same badge as the car. Instead, we can compare suitable models based on the features that matter to you, such as whether the cable is permanently attached, smart tariff compatibility, app control, solar charging, appearance and price. Once the charger has been selected, we assess the electrical supply and consumer unit, plan the dedicated cable route, carry out the installation and complete the necessary testing and commissioning.

We recently completed a home EV charger installation in Coltness, Wishaw, for a customer who had just taken delivery of their first electric vehicle and wanted a dedicated 7.4kW smart charger installed at home. The customer had been looking for an EV charger installer in Wishaw who could position the charger exactly where they wanted it, further along the side of the property beside the garage. They had previously been advised that the easiest option would be to mount the charger nearer the front door, close to the existing electrical supply, but this was not the location they wanted for everyday charging. After surveying the property, we found suitable under-floor access through a void beneath the bungalow. This allowed us to design a much neater solution, rather than simply choosing the easiest external wall position. We installed a new dedicated mini consumer unit along with the relevant EV charging equipment, including CT monitoring and load management. The customer also had solar panels and specifically wanted their new charging setup to make use of solar generation where possible, so this was taken into account when planning and configuring the installation. From the electrical supply, we routed 3-core armoured EV cable beneath the floor and across to the customer's preferred charging position beside the garage. The charger was then securely mounted, connected, tested and commissioned, operating at up to 7.4kW and successfully charging the customer's new electric car. The completed installation gave the customer exactly the charger position they had originally asked for, while keeping the cable route largely hidden beneath the property. They were very pleased with the finished result and told us they felt the overall price was very reasonable for the solution provided.
Public EV charging around Wishaw and the surrounding Lanarkshire area remains useful for longer journeys, rapid charging and occasional top-ups. For everyday charging, however, having a dedicated charger at home can be much more convenient. Instead of making regular trips to a public charger, the vehicle can be plugged in when you arrive home and charged while it is already parked. Customers with compatible smart tariffs may also be able to schedule charging during lower-cost overnight periods.
We come across a variety of different situations - but rest assured, we've seen them all, and can decipher from the initial survey what's required, what can be done, and how we can do it.
We install home EV chargers in a wide range of properties throughout Wishaw and ML2, including homes with straightforward driveways, garages and properties where the preferred charger position is further from the consumer unit. We have a lot of experience in recognising or creating alternative routes, in situations where customers don't necessarily want the charger fitted in the most obvious position. Our recent installation in Coltness involved using under-floor access to route the EV supply through the property to the customer's preferred charging position beside the garage, while also incorporating load management and the customer's solar setup. Before confirming any installation, we consider the electrical supply, available capacity, parking arrangement and cable route, so the solution is based on how you actually wants to use the charger.
Home EV chargers should ideally be positioned around where the EV is normally parked, rather than simply where it's easiest to install electrically. For straightforward setups such as charger on the wall serving the driveway, this can often mean mounting the charger directly beside the vehicle. Where the parking position is further along the property, beside a garage or in another suitable location, we can assess under-floor, internal or external cable routes to reach it neatly. We've had customers who have been advised by other providers to accept a less convenient charger position, simply because it's closer to the consumer unit. Where a suitable alternative is possible, we can plan the route properly so the charger is installed where it is practical for the customer to use every day.
The most important part of an EV charger installation is often the planning that takes place before the charger is mounted. We assess the available electrical capacity, existing consumer unit and proposed cable route so that the installation is appropriate for the property. Where required, this can include dedicated EV protection, a separate mini consumer unit, CT monitoring or dynamic load management. If the charger position is further away from the supply, we can also consider alternative cable routes rather than assuming the charger has to be mounted in the easiest position for the installer.

The cost depends on the charger you choose and what is required to install it safely. A straightforward installation with the charger close to the electrical supply will generally involve less work than one requiring a longer cable route, additional electrical equipment, groundwork or a separate charger position. We provide a clear quotation before installation and can offer options at different price points, including good-value smart chargers as well as more advanced premium models.
A good EV charger installer should be able to assess more than simply where the charger will be mounted. The existing electrical supply, consumer unit, available capacity, cable route, EV protection and any load-management requirements should all be considered before installation. Glasgow EV Chargers is OZEV-approved and NICEIC-certified, and we work with a wide range of leading smart charger manufacturers. We can help with charger selection, installation, testing, commissioning and smart setup rather than providing a one-size-fits-all package.
Yes. The consumer unit and charger do not have to be immediately beside each other. We assess suitable cable routes through or around the property, including under-floor routes, longer external runs and garage installations where required. For more involved jobs, a site survey allows us to plan the route and provide a clear quotation before the work begins - so you can see exactly what we'd install, and how we'd install it before going ahead.
