We carried out an EV charger installation in Bothwell for a customer whose property had a looped electrical supply. During the initial discussion, the customer explained that they had already been told by other installers and their energy supplier that getting an EV charger installed could involve a very long wait, with some suggesting it may take a year or more. Because our team has dealt with looped supplies before, we knew the correct route was to approach the installation carefully and involve the Distribution Network Operator. Subject to DNO approval, an EV charger can still be installed at a property with a looped supply, but only when the correct process and safeguards are followed. For this customer, we prepared the required information for the EV charger application and also submitted a carefully detailed request for the supply to be unlooped. This can often involve significant works around the street or driveway to provide the property with its own dedicated supply from the mains cable. In this case, SP Energy Networks attended within a matter of days and un-looped the supply. Once the supply issue had been resolved, we were able to safely complete the EV charger installation, giving the customer a compliant home charging setup far sooner than they had expected.
