Shawlands includes sandstone tenements, converted flats, terraced homes, main-door properties and traditional Southside houses, so EV charger installation is often more dependent on the individual property and parking arrangement. Where there is private parking, rear access or an allocated space, we assess the building layout and permissions before recommending a safe and practical home charging solution.

Shawlands drivers have public charging options around Kilmarnock Road, Pollokshaws Road, supermarket sites and wider Southside car parks. These are useful occasionally, but for properties with private parking, rear access or an allocated space, home charging is usually more convenient and can be far cheaper than depending on public chargers.

We've completed numerous EV charger installations across Shawlands and nearby areas such as Queens Park and Strathbungo. One recent project involved installing a dedicated home EV charger on Tantallon Road for a customer who wanted convenient overnight charging for their new Jaecoo 7. The property we'll discuss had both a private driveway and on-street parking, but the customer wanted the charger positioned on the wall of the house so the vehicle could be charged while parked on the driveway. During our survey, we found the main consumer unit and electrical supply were located within a ground-floor cupboard. The property was a traditional terraced home with no suitable under-floor access, and routing the cable around the exterior of the building was not practical because of the neighbouring properties. Rather than running visible cabling through the living areas of the home, our team designed an alternative installation route. The 3-core armoured EV cable was carefully routed vertically from the electrical cupboard into the first floor and then into the loft space. From there, the cable exited the property through a discreetly drilled and fully sealed entry point before being secured neatly to the exterior wall with cable cleats, running down to the customer's preferred charger position. We installed a dedicated mini EV consumer unit to provide a safe and compliant supply for the charger before securely mounting the 7.4kW home EV charger on the exterior wall beside the driveway. The installation was fully tested, commissioned and configured for the customer's preferred overnight charging tariff, allowing them to schedule charging through the accompanying smartphone app. The finished installation achieved exactly what the customer had hoped for—a discreet, practical and sympathetically installed home EV charging solution that complemented the property while providing reliable overnight charging for their Jaecoo 7. Despite the property's challenging layout, the charger was installed exactly where it was needed, with the cable route kept as unobtrusive as possible - without compromising on the appearance of the property.
We come across a variety of different situations - but rest assured, we've seen them all, and can decipher from the initial survey what's required, what can be done, and how we can do it.

In Shawlands, parking is often the deciding factor. Some homes have rear access, private spaces or shared parking courts, while others need advice around permissions and feasibility. We assess the parking arrangement first so customers know what is realistic before committing to an installation.
Shawlands installations can be more dependent on parking access and building layout, so charger choice needs to be practical rather than just brand-led. For flats, main-door homes and shared-access properties, the size of the unit, cable management, app reliability and tethered versus untethered design can all matter. We help customers choose a charger that works with the available parking space, permission requirements and normal charging routine.
