We carried out an EV charger installation on Whitelee Crescent in Newton Mearns for a customer who had recently taken delivery of a new BMW electric vehicle and wanted a dedicated 7.4kW home EV charger installed as quickly as possible. During our survey, we found that the property's consumer unit, main electrical supply and meter position were all located towards the middle-rear area of the home, and the customer wanted the charger positioned at the front beside the driveway where the vehicle was normally parked. Achieving a tidy installation without visible surface cabling was a priority. After carefully assessing the property, our team identified a suspended timber floor with a suitable under-floor void. We lifted the floorboards within the electrical cupboard, and ran the 3-core armoured EV cable beneath the floor throughout the property, bringing it out through a discreet drilled exit point on the front exterior wall exactly where the charger was required. To provide a dedicated supply for the installation, we installed a new mini EV consumer unit alongside the existing electrical equipment, complete with surge protection for additional safety and compliance. The new Project EV 7.4kW charger was then securely mounted on the front wall and fully commissioned. Before leaving, we configured the charger with the customer's overnight EV electricity tariff and completed the smartphone app setup, ensuring they could monitor charging, schedule overnight sessions, and manage the charger remotely. The finished installation provided a discreet cable route, a high-quality finish, and a fully-fledged, fast home charging solution, allowing the customer to charge their new BMW conveniently from home while taking advantage of lower overnight electricity rates.
