As experienced EV charger installers serving Rutherglen, we supply and install a wide range of smart 7kW home charging points, with tethered and untethered options available from leading manufacturers. Customers can choose from chargers by Ohme, Hypervolt, Zappi, Tesla, Zaptec, SyncEV, Andersen, Rolec, Deta, Autel, Project EV and other brands within our current range. Most modern electric vehicles use Type 2 AC charging at home, so the charger doesn't need to carry the same badge as the car. Instead, we can compare suitable units based on the features that matter to you, such as smart tariff integration, whether the cable is permanently attached, app control, solar charging, appearance and price. Once the charger has been selected, we assess the electrical supply and consumer unit, plan the dedicated EV cable route, carry out the installation and complete the necessary testing and commissioning.

We recently completed a home EV charger installation in Rutherglen for a customer who had taken delivery of a new BYD Seal and wanted a dedicated 7kW charger positioned beside the area where they normally park the car. The customer had a clear preference for the charger to be installed on the side of the property rather than on the front. This suited where the BYD was parked and also gave them the cleaner appearance they wanted when looking at the front of the house. The main electrical supply and consumer unit were located towards the rear of the property, so we planned a concealed cable route rather than simply running the EV cable externally around the building. Using the accessible void beneath the floor, we routed the dedicated EV supply underneath the property and beneath the front living room towards the customer's preferred charger position. The cable then exited through the external wall at the side of the property, where we mounted, connected, tested and commissioned a new 7kW Indra Smart PRO EV charger. The customer chose an untethered charger, preferring the cleaner appearance of the unit without a permanently attached charging cable. They can now use the Type 2 cable supplied with their BYD Seal whenever they need to charge, while storing it away when the charger is not in use. The finished installation gave the customer exactly the charger position and appearance they wanted, while keeping most of the cable route hidden beneath the property. Their new BYD Seal can now be conveniently charged at home from a dedicated smart EV charging point.
Public EV charging around Rutherglen and the wider Glasgow area can be useful for rapid charging, longer journeys and occasional top-ups. For everyday use, however, a dedicated home charger is usually much more convenient for customers with suitable off-street parking. The car can be plugged in when you arrive home and charged while it is already parked, rather than regularly planning visits to public charging points. Customers using compatible EV tariffs may also be able to schedule charging during cheaper overnight periods.
We come across a variety of different situations - but rest assured, we've seen them all, and can decipher from the initial survey what's required, what can be done, and how we can do it.
We install EV chargers in homes and properties throughout Rutherglen and G73, from straightforward installations serving the driveway, to homes where the electrical supply and preferred charger position are on different parts of the property. We have experience using concealed and under-floor routes where customers want to avoid unnecessary external cabling. On a recent Rutherglen installation for a BYD Seal, for example, we routed the EV supply beneath the property so the charger could be fitted on the side of the house where the customer actually parked the vehicle. The important factors are the existing electrical setup, available capacity, charger position and whether the dedicated EV circuit can be routed safely and neatly to where it is required.
Where a vehicle is parked on a private driveway, we first consider where the customer naturally wants to connect the car rather than automatically selecting the nearest external wall. The charger may be positioned at the front, side or garage area of the property, depending on the parking layout and available cable route. We also have a lot of experience installing chargers in locations chosen specifically for appearance, as well as convenience - such as to the side of the property, in the garage etc. Our recent Rutherglen customer wanted their charger positioned on the side of the property beside their usual parking space, rather than prominently on the front. By planning an under-floor cable route, we were able to place the charger exactly where requested while keeping most of the new cabling out of sight.
A good EV charger installation is about more than simply mounting the unit on the nearest wall. We assess the available electrical capacity, consumer unit, proposed charger position and full cable route before the work begins. Where required, this can include dedicated EV protection, a separate mini consumer unit, CT monitoring or dynamic load management. If the easiest electrical route does not place the charger where the customer actually wants it, we can also look at alternative routes and installation methods rather than automatically choosing the most convenient position for the installer.

The cost depends on both the charger you choose and the installation required. A straightforward installation with the charger close to the electrical supply will normally involve less work than one requiring a longer cable route, additional electrical equipment, groundwork or a charger positioned further away. We provide a clear quotation before installation and can offer options at different price points, including good-value smart chargers as well as more advanced premium models.
A good EV charger installer should assess the complete installation, not simply the position of the charger. The existing electrical supply, consumer unit, available capacity, cable route, EV protection and any load-management requirements should all be considered before the work begins. Glasgow EV Chargers is OZEV-approved and NICEIC-certified, and we work with a wide range of leading smart charger manufacturers. We can assist with charger selection, installation, testing, commissioning and smart setup.
