As experienced EV charger installers serving Greenock, we supply and install a wide range of smart 7kW home charging points, with both tethered and untethered chargers available from leading manufacturers. Our current range includes options from Ohme, Hypervolt, Zappi, Tesla, Rolec, Autel, Deta, Zaptec, SyncEV, Andersen, Project EV, Indra and other established manufacturers. Most modern electric vehicles use Type 2 AC charging at home, so customers will normally have a choice of compatible chargers rather than being restricted to a unit carrying the same badge as the car. We can compare suitable options based on whether you want the charging cable permanently attached, smart tariff compatibility, app control, solar charging, appearance and price. Once the charger has been selected, we assess the electrical supply and consumer unit, agree the charging position, plan the dedicated EV cable route, carry out the installation, then complete the necessary electrical testing and charger commissioning.

We recently completed a home EV charger installation for a customer in the Old Largs Road area of Greenock, who needed a reliable charging solution for their new Ford electric vehicle. The property did not have a driveway or parking space immediately beside the house. Instead, the customer's allocated parking position was around eight metres in front of the property, which had made finding a practical home charging solution more difficult than a typical driveway installation. After discussing the available options, we considered whether to route the EV circuit further around the perimeter of the property and position the charger closer to the parking space. The customer instead preferred a simpler and neater solution, with the charger mounted directly on the front of their property and a longer Type 2 charging cable used to reach the vehicle. We installed a new dedicated mini consumer unit for the EV charging circuit, before fitting and commissioning a 7.4kW Pilot EV smart charger on the front of the property. A 12-metre Type 2 charging cable was also supplied, giving the customer enough reach to comfortably connect the charger to their Ford EV in its normal parking position. The section of grass crossed by the charging cable formed part of the customer's own property. As an additional precaution, the customer chose to use a protective cable mat over this section whenever charging, helping make the cable more visible and protected while in use. The customer had spent some time speaking with other installers and considering different solutions before contacting Glasgow EV Chargers. They were delighted that we were able to provide a straightforward setup which gave them the home charging capability they wanted without unnecessarily extending the fixed installation around the grounds of the property. They can now charge their Ford EV conveniently at home and make use of their energy provider's cheaper overnight EV tariff, rather than relying on public charge points for their regular charging.
Public EV charging around Greenock and the wider Inverclyde area can be useful for longer journeys, rapid charging and occasional top-ups. For everyday charging, however, customers with suitable private parking can usually make EV ownership much more convenient with a dedicated charger at home. Instead of regularly travelling to a public charge point, the vehicle can be plugged in where it is already parked and charged according to the customer's preferred schedule. With a compatible smart electricity tariff, charging can also be scheduled during lower-cost overnight periods.
We come across a variety of different situations - but rest assured, we've seen them all, and can decipher from the initial survey what's required, what can be done, and how we can do it.
We install EV chargers at a wide range of types and styles of properties throughout Greenock, PA15 and PA16, including homes with driveways, and properties where the customer's parking space is separated from the building. We have experience finding practical solutions where a standard charger position is not possible. On a recent Greenock installation, the customer's vehicle was parked around eight metres in front of the property rather than directly beside the house. Instead of creating an unnecessarily long fixed cable route around the grounds, we installed the charger on the property and supplied a longer Type 2 charging cable to reach the vehicle. The electrical supply, parking arrangement, cable route and how the customer intends to charge the car are all considered before we recommend the final setup.
Not every Greenock customer has their car parked immediately beside the property, so the distance between the charger and parking position can be an important part of the installation plan. Where a private driveway sits beside the house, a typical wall-mounted charger will often be the most straightforward option. Where the customer's own parking space is further away, we can assess whether the better solution is a longer fixed electrical route, an alternative charger position or a longer Type 2 connector cable. We have a lot of direct experience in installations such as this in Greenock, and the aim is always to find a practical arrangement that allows you to charge comfortably at home, without adding unnecessary work or cost to the installation.
Good EV charger installation starts with understanding the electrical setup and planning the route properly before work begins. We assess the incoming supply, consumer unit, available electrical capacity, proposed charger position and complete cable route. Where required, this can include dedicated EV protection, a separate mini consumer unit, CT monitoring or dynamic load management. Where the customer wants the charger further from the electrical supply, we can also assess alternative routes rather than automatically placing the charger in the easiest location for the installer.

The cost depends on both the charger you choose and what is required to install it safely. A straightforward installation with a short cable route will normally involve less work than one requiring a longer run, additional electrical equipment, groundwork or a charger positioned further from the main supply. We provide a clear quotation before installation and can offer chargers at different price points, from good-value smart charging options through to more advanced premium models.
A good EV charger installer should assess the complete electrical installation rather than simply mounting a charger on the nearest outside wall. The existing electrical supply, consumer unit, available capacity, cable route, charger position, EV protection and any load-management requirements should all be considered before work begins. Glasgow EV Chargers is OZEV-approved and NICEIC-certified, and we work with a wide range of leading smart charger manufacturers. We can assist with charger selection, electrical installation, testing, commissioning and smart setup.
