We recently carried out a home EV charger installation in the Auchinairn area of Bishopbriggs for a customer who had just taken delivery of a new BYD Seal. They wanted a smart-looking charger positioned discreetly at the side of the property, with the ability to schedule charging during the cheaper overnight period available through their E.ON EV electricity tariff. Having a reliable charger at home would also reduce their need to depend on local public charging for routine day-to-day use. Following a short survey, we assessed the electrical supply, consumer unit location, proposed charger position and complete route for the new dedicated EV circuit. The existing consumer unit was positioned around the middle of the house, while the customer wanted the charger installed externally at the side of the property. We identified an under-floor cable route as the neatest and most practical way of reaching the required position without leaving a prominent cable running around the outside of the house. We sent the customer a proposal on the same day, explaining the proposed installation method and providing a selection of suitable smart chargers. After comparing the available options, the customer selected a Sync EV untethered charger. Its compact appearance suited the chosen position at the side of the house, while the untethered design allows the charging cable to be removed and stored when the charger is not being used. As part of the installation, we fitted a dedicated mini EV consumer unit at the existing electrical supply position. The new EV charging cable was then routed beneath the property and brought up at the agreed exit point beside the proposed charger location. From there, the final section was completed neatly to the Sync EV charger before the installation was tested, commissioned and prepared for use. The completed installation gives the customer a convenient home charging point for their new BYD Seal, positioned exactly where they wanted it without an unnecessarily visible cable route around the property. The smart charger can be scheduled around the customer’s lower-cost overnight charging period, helping reduce charging costs while ensuring the vehicle is ready for use the following morning. The customer was delighted with both the appearance of the finished installation and the convenience of being able to charge at home rather than regularly relying on public chargers.
